These substances, similar to the body s own hormones, can provide relief from several medical conditions. Patients should use such medications, available by prescription, only after consulting with a physician. Yet, the pharmaceutical industry provides many effective and safe treatment options.

Older men with testosterone deficiency syndrome can benefit from taking testosterone delivered from a transdermal patch. This type of hormone use is considered bioidentical because the testosterone molecule remains unchanged during the patch manufacturing process. A 2010 investigation published in the Journals of Gerontology evaluated the effectiveness of these testosterone patches in older men scored as frail during routine physicals. The data showed that six months of bioidentical therapy with transdermal testosterone prevented the age-related loss of muscle mass observed in the control subjects. Such results indicate that testosterone replacement may prevent pathological aging.

Postmenopausal women with estrogen deficiency can treat the symptoms of reproductive aging using estrogen taken as 17-beta estradiol. This form of estrogen is bioidentical to that naturally found in the body. A 2010 experiment described in the medical journal Stem Cells and Development looked at the positive role estrogen can play in preventing osteoporosis, a typical consequence of menopause. Exposing human bone cells maintained in petri dish cultures to 17-beta estradiol increased their proliferation and viability. These data suggest that bioidentical estrogen can improve bone health and thereby help to ward off the development of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.

Pregnant women at risk for premature delivery and labor often have low levels of progesterone, a hormone which plays a protective role in pregnancy. Such women can benefit from taking micronized progesterone to delay labor and birth. This form of hormone treatment, delivered by vaginal suppository, is derived from the yam plant and identical to human progesterone. A 2010 paper presented in the Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics tested bioidentical progesterone in women with previous birth difficulties. Results indicated that progesterone given in the last trimester reduced premature births 17 percent compared to placebo. Women taking the bioidentical hormone were also less likely to enter premature labor.

Older women using estrogen may develop blood clots as a side effect of hormone replacement therapy. Concurrent intake of bioidentical hormones can reduce this risk. A 2007 report offered in the periodical Circulation assessed the impact of simultaneous use of transdermal estrogen and micronized progesterone. The combination of these two bioidentical drugs had no effect on blood clot risk. In contrast, nonbioidentical drug combinations such as oral estrogen and synthetic progesterone greatly increased risk. Such results reveal the advantage of bioidentical drugs, and they indicate that transdermal estrogen and micronized progesterone provide some of the best treatment options for hormonal dysfunction.

Spreading activation is a method for searching associative networks, neural networks, or semantic networks. The search process is initiated by labeling a set of source nodes e.g. concepts in a semantic network with weights or activation and then iteratively propagating or spreading that activation out to other nodes linked to the source nodes. Most often these weights are real values that decay as activation propagates through the network. When the weights are discrete this process is often referred to as marker passing. Activation may originate from alternate paths, identified by distinct markers, and terminate when two alternate paths reach the same node. However brain studies show that several different brain areas play an important role in semantic processing, 1

As it relates to cognitive psychology, spreading activation is how the brain moves through an entire network of ideas to retrieve specific information. The spreading activation theory presents the array of concepts within our memory as cognitive units, each consisting of a node and its associated elements or characteristics, all connected together by lines. 3 A spreading activation network can be represented schematically, in a sort of web diagram with shorter lines between two nodes meaning the ideas are more closely related and will typically be associated more quickly to the original concept. 2

When a word the target is preceded by an associated word the prime in word recognition tasks, participants seem to perform better in the amount of time that it takes them to respond. For instance, subjects respond faster to the word doctor when it is preceded by nurse than when it is preceded by an unrelated word like carrot. This semantic priming effect with words that are close in meaning within the cognitive network has been seen in a wide range of tasks given by experimenters, ranging from sentence verification to lexical decision and naming. 6

As another example, if the original concept is red and the concept vehicles is primed, they are much more likely to say fire engine instead of something unrelated to vehicles, such as cherries. If instead fruits was primed, they would likely name cherries and continue on from there. The activation of pathways in the network has everything to do with how closely linked two concepts are by meaning, as well as how a subject is primed.

Algorithm edit

A directed graph is populated by Nodes 1N each having an associated activation value A i which is a real number in the range 0.0 1.0. A Link i, j connects source node i with target node j . Each link has an associated weight W i, j usually a real number in the range 0.0 1.0. 7

Decay factor D, a real number in the range 0.0 1.0

Steps:

Initialize the graph setting all activation values A i to zero. Set one or more origin nodes to an initial activation value greater than the firing threshold F. A typical initial value is 1.0.

For each unfired node i in the graph having an activation value A i greater than the node firing threshold F:

If a target node receives an adjustment to its activation value so that it would exceed 1.0, then set its new activation value to 1.0. Likewise maintain 0.0 as a lower bound on the target node s activation value should it receive an adjustment to below 0.0.

Once a node has fired it may not fire again, although variations of the basic algorithm permit repeated firings and loops through the graph.

Nodes receiving a new activation value that exceeds the firing threshold F are marked for firing on the next spreading activation cycle.

If activation originates from more than one node, a variation of the algorithm permits marker passing to distinguish the paths by which activation is spread over the graph

The procedure terminates when either there are no more nodes to fire or in the case of marker passing from multiple origins, when a node is reached from more than one path. Variations of the algorithm that permit repeated node firings and activation loops in the graph, terminate after a steady activation state, with respect to some delta, is reached, or when a maximum number of iterations is exceeded.

If you have a USB printer and a computer that has USB but no more available USB connections, purchase a USB hub. USB is capable of supporting up to 127 different devices and a USB hub allows you to connect more USB devices to your computer.

USB only printer with no USB ports on computer

If your printer only has a USB option and your computer is an older computer with no USB option, we recommend you purchase a USB expansion card. These cards are installed in your computer and enable your computer to use all USB devices. However, make sure your computer meets the requirements of the expansion card, often older computers running older operating systems will not support USB at all.

You may also want to consider a USB to parallel converter, these converters will convert the USB signals into signals that can be understood by the parallel port. However, it s important to keep in mind that if your printer only supports USB, the printer s software will still not work. This solution should enable your printer to communicate with the computer. However, to print you would have to install a generic parallel printer driver, which is available through your operating system for many of the features to work. We do not recommend this solution, but would like to make it known that it is available.

If your computer does not support a USB expansion card and you would like to get a USB printer to work, we suggest you consider purchasing a new or upgraded computer.

Using a USB to parallel adapter doesn t make any sense. Here we are speaking about using a very old legacy software on hardware with USB only connections.

The Texas Legislature authorized the Indigency Program to give individuals the opportunity to pay surcharges owed under the Driver Responsibility Program and still maintain their driving privileges.

For individuals who qualify, the Indigency Program:

Reduces only the surcharge amount owed to 10 percent of the total or 250, whichever is less, plus related fees, and

Stops the surcharge suspension for those individuals who are making payments; individuals who have an enforcement action other than a surcharge suspension are still not eligible to drive.

Individuals who participate in this program will still owe the full amount of all other applicable fees, including reinstatement fees and service fees.

Apply for Indigency

To apply for indigency, individuals must submit an application and provide supporting documentation. An application must be fully completed, signed, and notarized before it can be processed.

You can apply online and download an application at www.txsurchargeonline.com or call 866-223-3583 to have an application mailed.

Submitting Documentation

Based on the answers that were provided to the questions in the application, some individuals may have to submit any or all the following items:

A copy of SSI benefits statement, if applicable.

A copy of the most recent Medicaid benefits statement, if applicable.

A copy of your two 2 most recent and complete bank statements.

Your most recent 1040 and related 1099, if applicable.

Evidence of dependents, if not listed on the previous documents.

A copy of your two 2 most recent pay statements.

A copy of the two 2 most recent pay statements from Other Household income listed above.

A copy of your Unemployment approval or denial letter.

A copy of your Veteran Benefits statement, if applicable.
